Overview

Partway through the walkthrough, Carl Fordyce explains why every room in the new show home does something different. It is there "to get the conversation going". Somebody notices the fluted tiles or the curved ensuite wall, and David Reid Homes Christchurch North gets to ask what they want in their own house. Our job was to make films that start that conversation with people who have not been through the door yet.

It was our first shoot for the branch, timed for the official launch of the show home at 2 Berryfields Avenue, Harewood. Carl's team had put a lot of thought into the detail, and the footage had to hold up to it. Ben and James shot on a RED Komodo alongside our Sony cameras for the extra dynamic range. In a house built around skylights and oversized windows, that range is the difference between a bright room and a blown-out one.

The shoot was easy. The edit was not. The house has more small, hidden features than 3 minutes can carry, and each one was put there on purpose. We cut back to the features Carl and Alana talk through on camera, and left the rest for people to find when they visit.

The two films do different jobs. The 3 minute walkthrough is for someone weighing up a build, and David Reid Homes has shared it across its national website and social channels. The 52 second vertical cut is a teaser, boosted as a paid ad with one aim: getting people to come and see the show home in person. Both went live in October 2026, so there is no result data yet.

The 47 photographs cover the house and the people. Interiors were shot in daylight, and the frontage, deck and courtyard fireplace at dusk with the lights on. The team set includes the whole Christchurch North branch outside the front door.
