Overview

Four Avenues build design-led townhouses in Christchurch for first home buyers and investors. We met them on someone else's job. The first thing we shot was a site walkthrough with Matt Harrison Construction, another B Creative client, as a collaboration between the two companies. It became the highest performing post on Four Avenues' Instagram, and it is the reason they came back.

The second job was Made to Move You, a campaign built with branding agency George Design. The idea came out of how close Four Avenues' developments sit to central Christchurch, and how easy that is to underestimate if your reference points are Auckland or an Australian city.

We built the film around a stopwatch. Each trip times the run from a development to a Christchurch landmark, with things going mildly wrong along the way. The timer makes the argument, so nobody has to stand there claiming anything.

The shoot was not the hard part. George Design's brief was clear enough that the day ran easily, which is rarer than it sounds. The difficulty came in the edit. There was more usable material than a social cut could carry, and tightening it to something that holds attention meant losing sequences that worked on their own.

The hero film runs 3 minutes 21 seconds and was delivered in 16:9 and 4:5, so it runs on the website and in feed without a recut. George Design also took the colour graded raw footage for their own use.

  • Colour graded raw footage handed to George Design for the wider campaign

Four Avenues

Goal
Show how close the developments are to town

Four Avenues build townhouses in Christchurch for first home buyers and investors. The campaign had to make the case that their sites sit closer to the middle of town than people assume, particularly anyone whose reference point is Auckland or an Australian city.

Challenge
Too much good material for a short film

The shoot itself ran smoothly. George Design's creative brief was clear and the concept was straightforward to execute against. The difficulty came in the edit, where there was more usable footage than a social cut could carry, and tightening it meant dropping sequences that worked.

Solution
A stopwatch doing the arguing, not a voiceover

Each journey is timed from a development to a Christchurch landmark, with small mishaps along the way. The timer makes the point on its own, so the film never has to claim anything directly. Delivering in both 16:9 and 4:5 meant it ran on the website and in feed without a recut.

Outcome
Their two highest performing Instagram posts

Four Avenues report the Made to Move You brand film drew over 240 likes, 25 comments and more than 7,000 views on Instagram, well ahead of the brand film it replaced. The earlier Matt Harrison Construction collaboration drew 209 likes, 10 comments and over 8,000 views. They report both as the two highest performing posts on their account.
